How to get great listings on the search engines for free by Mitch Cohen Over the past few months, I had a number of customers tell me about how they were getting great listings on Google and other search engines. Sure enough, I checked, and their sites were showing up in the top 10 on Google for a number of great phrases. One customer was warning us that he may get a huge amount of traffic. He was checking to make sure this wasn't going to be a problem for us. After checking out his site and his rankings on Google, I decided to move his website to a more powerful server that could handle the extra load. Then, other customers were calling with similar questions about registering multiple domain names and other specific search engine strategies. I started to suspect that they were reading the same tips. I started asking them where they found the information they were using. They told me about a book called "An Unfair Advantage in Winning the Search Engine Wars". I checked this out, and I found an amazing online e-book that goes into great detail on how each of the major search engines works. It goes over strategies of how to target your website to rank high on these engines. The great thing about this is that they keep the information updated online. In December, Google changed the way that they rank pages. This really was a problem for certain websites that suddenly found that their ranking dropped from 2nd to 30th! The online "Unfair Advantage" book talks about this and explains what you can do to get your ranking back up there. I can share one of the tips that I read in the e-book. I found myself nodding my head in agreement as I read this one, since it has worked for me in the past. They talk about registering a domain name with your key phrase in the name, even if the name has dashes or is long. You can have many domain names that point to the same website, and it may be worth registering additional names to help with your search engine rankings. If you are selling trips to Florida, you may want to register a name such as "Florida-Vacations-and-more.com". Even if the obvious names "FloridaVacations.com" and "Florida-Vacations.com" are taken, a longer slightly modified version, such as "Florida-Vacations-and-more.com" may still be available. This type of domain name may help you rank higher when someone types in a phrase like "Florida Vacations". I highly recommend this e-book. There are many books out there that claim to have search engine secrets, but this is the only one I have found with testimonials from our SiteRightNow.com customers. There are also great testimonials on their website from large companies that use their techniques. I went ahead and bought the book myself and found the information fascinating and very practical in nature.
